Hi, my name is Julian Wharam and I love hosting events to help give a crowd a great time. I decided by the tender age of 12 that I wanted to be a DJ and radio presenter (despite the advice of my teachers to “get a proper job”!) and I made sure that I did all I could to make those dreams come true.
Live performance has always been in my blood and it has been a real pleasure to DJ at some of the most successful radio stations in the UK, including Cardiff (where I worked at Red Dragon (now Capital) with Simon Ross), Leeds (where I worked at Radio Aire (now Greatest Hits Radio) with Simon Clarke), Birmingham (where I worked at Heart and BRMB), Worcester (where I work at Wyvern, formerly Youthcomm), Newcastle and Manchester (Smooth Radio).
Club work has included a Saturday night residency at Tiger Tiger (the legendary Broad Street, Birmingham), Zeus and Brannigans (Cardiff), Majestic (Leeds) and regular appearances at university venues including Leeds and Lancaster.
A real perk of the job is getting to interview and dine out with some of the biggest music and Hollywood stars around. Whether sharing a cheeky cigar with Tom Jones, partying at a Kylie album launch, dining out with Justin Timberlake, interviewing Wet Wet Wet or shooting pool with Blur, it is always an absolute thrill. Hosting ‘Party in the Park’ in Leeds or the ‘Welsh Awards’ in Cardiff in front of huge crowds is a definite highlight!
I never would have predicted that by the age of 30 I would also be a nominated Guardian Teacher of the Year, a teacher-trainer and an event host; I find that these roles are remarkably similar to being a DJ in so many ways!!!
Away from work you would find me being a proud husband and family man, out enjoying the spectacular Worcestershire countryside (and its welcoming bars and pubs!) Cheers!
